Training Center Sees First Fires
Fires were lit for the first time in the Middle Peninsula Regional Fire
Training Center on Sunday, November 11, 2007. Before the center can be
certified for training, the insulating materials in the "burn room" must be
exposed to slowly increasing levels of heat, like a break in period.
Several fires were built throughout the day to generate up to 600 degree
temperatures within the burn area. Smoke filled the structure creating a
realistic and dark environment throughout the rest of the building.
A certification exercise will be conducted prior to making the building
available for routine training.
