Brush Fire on Nelson Wood Lane
On April 2, 2015 at approximately 2:30pm Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded to Nelson Wood Ln for a report of a brush fire. Upon arrival, fire was found spreading across the marsh, with some structures threatened. Units were able to extinguish the approximately four acres that were involved in just under two hours. One barn had minor fire damage, and a garage sustained moderate damage to the siding. Units remained on scene for an additional 30 minutes to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. The Department of Forestry members were on scene as well and were investigating the cause. GVFRS responded four engines, two brush trucks, one gator, one tanker, one rescue truck, one ambulance, and approximately 36 members. Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Mathews Volunteer Fire Department also provided assistance. Chief JD Clements was in command.
