Ice/Water Rescue Training 2015
Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad’s response district includes the Mobjak Bay; 5 rivers (York, Severn, Ware, North and Piankatank), a reservoir, numerous creeks and countless lakes and ponds of varying sizes and depths. A grant from the Treakle Foundation obtained late last year enabled the company to purchase 3 mustang cold water immersion survival suits, 2 rescue swimmer sets, 6 mustang rescuer life jackets and a rescue board. This specialized equipment is designed to protect the life of fire/rescue personnel responding to persons finding themselves in water emergencies requiring rescue. On Saturday February 28th members of the company received training from Firefighter/Paramedic Hugh Hommel of the Ocean City Md. Fire Department. Hommel is a founding member of the OCFD dive and water rescue teams and former member of the Ocean City Beach Patrol.
