On June 14th, Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a chemical spill at the Hampton Inn, located on Forest Hill Ave. After an initial investigation it was found that there was a hazardous chemical spill in the pool area. Newport News Fire Department Regional Hazmat Team and Virginia Department of Emergency Management were called to assist in the containment and cleanup of the spill.
On June 16th, Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue was called to respond mutual aid with James City County Fire Department Dive Team for a report of a missing swimmer in the York River. Search crews from JCCFD, GVFRS, Virginia Marine Resource Commission, and the United Stated Coast Guard searched the area between York River State Park in James City County and the Poropotank Creek diligently throughout the evening in an attempt to locate the missing swimmer. Recovery of the victim was completed by JCCFD on June 17th.
