Press Release – Structure Fire
On April 17, 2014 at approximately 7:40am Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded to a report of a structure fire on Poplar Ridge Rd in the Pinetta area. Upon arrival heavy smoke and fire were visible from the back corner of the house. The home owner stated that she had noticed smoke coming from the air vents and called 911. The occupants were advised to exit the structure, and shortly after the smoke alarms went off. Residents reported to the first arriving unit that all occupants were out of the house and no one was injured. It was later found that the home owner’s cat did not make it out of the house. Units remained on scene for approximately two hours extinguishing the fire and conducting overhaul operations. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. GVFRS responded two engines, one rescue truck, one tanker, one ambulance, and 18 members. Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded one engine and Lower King and Queen Volunteer Fire Department responded one tanker mutual aid. Chief JD Clements was in command.
