Structure Fire on Chitlin Switch Road

On January 12, 2017 at approximately 12:50pm Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded for a report of a structure fire on Chitlin Switch Rd. Upon the arrival of the first units, fire was seen coming from a double wide trailer. The male occupant of the trailer was alerted to the fire by his smoke detector, at which time he saw fire and exited the residence and called 911. GVFRS responded four engines, one tanker, one rescue, one medic unit, and approximately 20 members. Mutual aid was received from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Mathews Volunteer Fire Department. There was a significant amount of fire damage through out the structure, and the cause is undetermined at this time. Captain Forrest Conner was in command.
