Structure Fire on Clay Bank Road

On April 12, 2016 at approximately 12:20pm, Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. was dispatched for a structure fire on Clay Bank Rd. Upon arrival, heavy fire was found coming from a two story garage/apartment. Members worked quickly to extinguish what was left of the structure and conduct overhaul operations. The resident who was living in the apartment above the garage was not home at the time of the fire. GVFRS responded with five engines, one tanker, one rescue truck, one ambulance, and approximately 18 members. Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded mutual aid with a tanker and personnel. Units remained on scene for almost three hours. There were no injuries on scene, and the structure was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
