structure fire wagon run 2017-04-16On April 16, 2017 Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded to a report of a structure fire on Wagon Run Rd.  The caller stated that they could see smoke and flames coming from the neighbor’s house.  Upon arrival, a single story residence was found to have heavy flames coming from the front side, and smoke coming from all sides.  The embers from the house also started a small brush fire in the woods near the residence.  Crews worked quickly to extinguish the house and brush fires.  No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries on scene.  GVFRS responded five engines, one tanker, one rescue truck, one ambulance, and approximately 30 members.  Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded one tanker to the scene, and one engine with staffing to back-fill Station 1.  The cause of the fire was determined to be carelessly discarded smoking material.  Chief JD Clements was in command.
