1 Mutual Aid to Abingdon for a structure fire

On December 28, 2017 Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded to 2 structure fires.  The first one came out just before 9am at Crutchman’s on Route 14.  Initial information from dispatch stated the fire started in the furnace.  Upon arrival of the first units, it was determined there was fire between the 1st and 2nd floor in the area around the chimney.  Due to the age and construction of the building accessing the location of the fire was delayed, however once the fire was located it was quickly extinguished.  There were no injuries on scene.  Four engines, one rescue, one tanker, one tower, one medic and 28 GVFRS members responded.  Mutual aid apparatus and personnel was responded from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, and Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department.  While operating at the fire at Crutchman’s, GVFRS received call for another structure fire on Grenwich Lane around 10:30am.  One engine and 9 members from GVFRS, as well as apparatus and personnel from Mathews and Abingdon were released from the scene at Crutchman’s to respond to the second structure fire.  Upon arrival of the first units a wall in the laundry room was found to be on fire.  Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and ventilate the structure.  There were no injuries on scene.
