On March 8, 2014 at approximately 4:15pm Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Inc. responded to Morgan Rd for a public assist. The resident stated that there was a smell of smoke in her apartment but could not see any smoke or fire. Upon arrival, units found a strong burnt electrical smell in the kitchen. The resident stated she first noticed the odor around noon. The hot water heater was found to heavy charring on the outside around the access panel. Upon further investigation charring was also found behind in the access panel and inside the hot water heater, indicating there had been a fire. Fire damage was contained to the hot water heater and the shelf above it. There was not active fire upon arrival of fire units, and no fire extension found upon investigation. No injuries were reported. 2 engines and 4 members responded.
