Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc. responded to the following calls between October 7 and 13, 2018:
95 Medical Calls
22 Motor Vehicle Collisions
7 Calls for trees down
6 Fire alarms
5 Public assists
1 Brush Fire
1 Controlled Burn
1 Nothing found on arrival
1 Structure Fire
On October 13, 2018 Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc responded to a report of a possible barn fire on Beaver Dr. The called said it appeared the the neighbors barn was on fire. Upon arrival of county deputies and first arriving GVFRS units it was discovered the it was actually the residence that was consumed be a large amount of fire. The residents were not home at the time. Units remained on scene for approximately 5 hours working to extinguish the fire and conduct overhaul operations. Mutual aid was received from Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, and Lower King and Queen Volunteer Fire Department for water supply. Chief JD Clements was in command.
