GVFRS has outgrown our Main Street Station, Station 1, which can no longer properly support the needed equipment and personnel. GVFRS has been working for nearly two years to develop options to meet the needs of the department and the community for at least the next 50 years.

FDIC International, short for Fire Department Instructors Conference, is an annual weeklong training program held in Indianapolis that is attended by thousands of Fire & Rescue professionals from around the world. Led by world-class instructors, attendees are involved in learning environments including classrooms, workshops, H.O.T. (Hands On Training) Evolutions along with the opportunity to view the most innovative products and services available to the industry displayed by over 800 exhibiting companies. The FDIC experience is about learning and sharing with peers, formally and informally, through hallway conversations, meals and group gatherings after hours developing life-long friendships, and recharging their passion for the industry. At FDIC, ALL attendees are considered to be true professionals within the fire service whether they are employed by career departments or are members of volunteer fire companies serving their respective communities. Those who attend are not only encouraged, they are expected by FDIC to take back what they have learned to be shared with others in their agencies. Your Gloucester and Abington Volunteer Fire Instructors attending this week are: Assistant Chief W. L. Johnston, Training Officers/Captains Andy Nazak and Drew Luellen, and Lieutenants Blake Fleming and Tony Villani.
C.W. Miller was recently recognized for his years of service with Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad at a recent meeting at Station 1. Miller, center, joined GVFRS 60 years ago, on April 1, 1964 and served as an Assistant Chief for many years. He is flanked by GVFRS President Bruce Soles, at left, and Chief of Department J.D. Clements.
