Purpose

To create a safe backing procedure to ensure the safety of our members, bystanders, and equipment.

Policy

Per the direction of the Fire Chief, all personnel shall use a spotter, if practical, when backing apparatus (to include medic units). When backing apparatus, the driver should maintain visual contact with the spotter at all times; if the spotter cannot be seen, the apparatus shall be stopped until the spotter is within view of the driver.

This policy is effective immediately and until revoked and applies to all GVFRS personnel and vehicles.
