R2. Squad Sergeants

Purpose

To establish the standards for Squad Sergeants and their responsibilities.

Procedure

Squad Sergeants are appointed by the EMS Captains, with the approval of the Assistant Chief, EMS, to help with the day to day management of the different squads. The duties of a squad sergeant include the following;

  • Make sure there are sufficient personnel available to man their stations when their squad is on duty.
  • Handle personnel issues within their squad, and to make the Captain and/or the Assistant Chief, EMS aware of them.
  • When both first and second calls are to be answered out of one station, to decide which team will be “first call” and which will be “second call”.
  • Assist the Captain with the qualification process for new members
