GVFRS offers American Heart Association CPR classes for the general public as a community service (Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED). We also offer BLS for Healthcare Providers for EMTs, Nurses, and other medical professionals. A small fee may be charged to cover costs of materials and cards. Everyone is welcome to attend either course. Unless otherwise noted, all classes are held at Station 1 (6595 Main Street, Gloucester, VA 23061).

BLS FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.
In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

HEARTSAVER FIRST AID CPR AED
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.
